Villian or hero?

Have you ever liked a villain more than the hero? Who and why?

I’ll say first that I believe we all have in us the ability to be villains. WIth the right amount of stuff happening to you, you can do anything.

I tend to like the villains more because I can, sometimes, understand the HOW of why they are this way. What path did they take to uncover these things about themselves?

Severus Snape is a great example. Only in the last movie do we see his hidden secrets of being bullied and tormented by the very people that are like him, magic users. And his love for Lily Potter, a first love that was only them for a short amount of time, but for Severus, it lasted a lifetime.

Heroes, like Harry P., might have an extensive abuse history, and they rise above it all in some way but that’s not an experience many of us have. We have more of the villain past, struggling to rise above the abusive home, toxic schooling, then adult life gets even more toxic. We can either rise to the heroic level, of we can fall prey to ourselves and become the villain in our own story. It’s up to us.

Severus, in the end, when he offered Harry his tears, knew that Harry would see it all. He laid his soul bare to Harry. Harry later calls him one of the bravest men he has ever know. The hero calls the villain the bravest. And that IS magic.
